New York, December 4, 2008 –The United Nations Millennium Campaign welcomes the strong reaffirmation of support for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the recognition of the key linkage between MDGs and climate change, and the full endorsement of the Monterrey Consensus contained in the outcome document of the Financing for Development Conference in Doha last weekend. But the Campaign stresses that without urgent and specific plans, timelines and actions for the implementation of these agreements at the national level in each country, the conference will ultimately deliver very little for the world’s poorest.

New York, November 26, 2008 – The United Nations Millennium Campaign is calling for donor countries gathering at the Financing for Development Conference in Doha to commit to equitable trade rules and more effective aid that can help achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Poor countries in turn must focus on mobilizing domestic resources and enhance MDG-related public expenditures, as poor people brace themselves for the ripple effects of the global economic shock.

New York, 22 October 2008 – Anti-poverty campaigners today announced that more than 116 million people – nearly two percent of the world population – mobilized at events in 131 countries on October 17-19 as part of “Stand Up and Take Action.” The mobilization, which was ratified by Guinness as breaking the world record for the biggest mass mobilization on a single issue, sends a clear message to world leaders that citizens will not stay seated while promises to end poverty remain unfulfilled. At least 5 million additional people – many in Africa and Latin America— Stood Up at events not submitted before the Guinness deadline.

G-STAR and MDGs
G-Star Raw, Alan Cumming and Heather Graham Voice their Support for the Millennium Development Goals
On September 11, actors Alan Cumming and Heather Graham lent their support for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) at the G-Star Raw Spring/Summer 2009 runway show during Fashion Week in New York. Following the runway show, both actors curated the first New York edition of the global G-Star Raw Night series, on behalf of the UN Millennium Campaign. During G-Star Raw Night, Cumming, Graham and other entertainers expressed the importance of the commitments made by world leaders to achieve the Millennium Development Goals and end extreme poverty by 2015, in word and song.
The event also featured an MDG room where guests took action by sending digital messages of support for the MDGS to Heads of State.
