The Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health has called on G8 leaders to fulfil their previous commitments to global health and commit to new, long-term financing for essential interventions that could avert the deaths of over 6 million mothers, newborns and children every year.

The ONE Campaign collaborated with Interaction, the U.S. Global Leadership Campaign, and several other partner organizations to secure a $3.1 billion increase in the 2009 international affairs budget.

MDG Workshop

This handbook introduces educators to an interactive and dynamic student simulation
that teaches students about global poverty. Throughout the simulation, students work collaboratively to critically examine global challenges in seven countries and present
innovative solutions to end global poverty by the year 2015.

During the next week, US President Bush will meet with leaders of five African countries and review the progress to increase economic development and the fight against HIV/AIDS and malaria

The five countries on the itinerary are: Benin, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana and Liberia. Before leaving for the trip, the first lady and the President gave a speech at the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art in Washington DC about their expectations for the trip.

Every minute a woman dies due to complications in pregnancy or
childbirth, adding up to half a million women dying every year. Another
10-15 million women suffer serious or long-lasting illnesses or
disabilities.

“No woman should die giving life,” said UNFPA Executive Director Thoraya Ahmed Obaid.
“To have a healthy society, you have to have healthy mothers.”

In many countries, however, progress in maternal health has been slow.
In some, the situation has actually deteriorated over the last 20 years.

World Relief

The Story of the Church at Work

World Relief believes that the Church must be the “hands of Jesus.”

Matthew 5:16 says: “…let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” And James 1:22 says: “Do not merely listen to the word…Do what it says.”

We believe local church congregations offer hope and life; that the church offers the best context for working with the poor in overcoming their lack of opportunity. The local church with its emphasis on restored relationships can meet spiritual, social and physical needs.
