The UN Millennium Campaign held today its donor dialogue 2012 “The Millennium Campaign Scaling Up MDGs Advocacy Towards 2015” at its headquarters in New York.
The event was chaired by Olav Kjorven, Assistant Secretary General at UNDP, and included the participation of Amina J. Mohammed, Assistant Secretary General and Special Advisor on Post-2015 Development Planning, and Corinne Woods, Director of the UN Millennium Campaign, as well as over 25 UN member state representatives from across the globe, including H.E. Mr. Abulkalam Abdul Momen, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations and delegations from both the Capitals and Permanent Missions to the United Nations in New York.
The event aimed at informing current and potential UN Millennium Campaign donors about the work of the Campaign and its strategic vision towards 2015.
Mr. Kjorven praised the efforts of the UN Millennium Campaign around strategic advocacy for MDG acceleration and emphasised the critical outreach role of the Campaign to key constituencies in the framework of the post-2015 process.
Ms. Mohammed stressed the importance of having an open, inclusive and transparent dialogue on the post-2015 agenda and underlined the need to capture the voices of the citizens in this process.
Ms. Woods thanked all the participants for their support to the Campaign and insisted on the need to renew and step up the current commitments to ensure adequate progress on the MDG in the years left to the 2015 mark, and support the outreach efforts around the post-2015 process. In this framework, Ms. Woods provided a summary of the strategic focus areas of the Campaign, including MDG advocacy, innovative communications initiatives and outreach around the post-2015 process.
